Our strawberries have been given a new colour. A little love letter to sun-drenched afternoons, vintage ice cream parlours, and poolside glamour.
There is a specific kind of magic in the details: the glossy cherry topping a tall ice-cream sundae, a bright garnish resting on the rim of a Singapore Sling on a breezy deck at Raffles, or the simple joy of an icy Shirley Temple shared in the afternoon heat.
Hand-poured in a dreamscape of deep maraschino red and strawberries-and-cream blush, these candles bring that exact spirit of nostalgic elegance to your table. Designed to look like sun-ripened fruit plucked from a mid-century dessert cart, they turn any cake, or quiet slice of afternoon pavlova into a joyous, main-character ritual.

The Apple of Our Eye.
There is something deeply nostalgic (and yet entirely fresh) about a miniature. Our Mini Apple Birthday Candles are a playful nod to the seasons, designed for those who believe that the best celebrations happen in the details.
Hand-poured into perfect, teeny-tiny pome shapes, these sculptural wishing tools of joy are intended to be scattered on a large gold tray and place on a linen tablecloth or nestled atop a homemade sponge cake. They are for the birthdays that turn into long, sunkissed evenings and for those "just because" moments that deserve a little magic.
Each set of eight is a curated invitation to slow down. With a 20-30 minute burn time, they provide the perfect amount of time for songs to be sung, wishes to be made, and of course, all of the cake to be eaten..

Woodland · Hand-painted · No two the same
I grew up on the edge of the Fens, where my Nan believed in fairies. Not the Tinkerbell kind. The Fen kind: the ones you're wary of, admire and respect, and who sometimes leave something in return. My children have their own fairy pen pals now, a fairy door in their bedroom, and shelves full of the old stories. So here's a little ring of toadstools for the cake, from a 9 cm statement cap down to 4 cm sprites. Every cap is hand-painted, so no two mushrooms, or sets, are ever quite the same.
The lore
Mind the ring. In British folklore, a circle of toadstools marked where the fairies had danced. Step inside and you might not come out for years. Arrange accordingly.
The Fen folk. In the Fens they told of the Tiddy Mun, a spirit who ruled the waters and the mists. When floods reached the villages, people went out at night and called to him, and by morning the water had gone down. My Nan would have approved.
Not just Peter Rabbit. Beatrix Potter painted hundreds of fungi and wrote a scientific paper on their spores. It was read to the Linnean Society on 1 April 1897, by a man, because women weren't allowed to attend. No joke. They apologised in 1997.
What's in it, and what isn't
NZ beeswax and soy, coloured with German-made candle dye, with a cotton wick. The caps are hand-painted with a water-based varnish. That's the whole list: no fillers, no nasties. No fragrance either. Not "natural fragrance", not a "botanical blend". None.

Hand-poured using our signature blend of natural soy and local beeswax, these aren't just for birthdays. They are for the quiet Tuesday night dinner, the bedside table, or as a sophisticated "thank you" to the host who has everything. With no added fragrance, they emit only the faint, nostalgic scent of warm honey, a clean, honest glow that won't compete with the aromas of your kitchen.

Always protect the surface on which your candle is to rest when lit with a candle tray. Do not burn your candle all the way down, always leave at least 5mm of wax at the base.

Made for the trip of a lifetime. My husband and I walked the Inca Trail while we were dating, then came home and moved in together. Was the avocado responsible? Who knows! This one takes us straight back to sitting in the ruins of Machu Picchu. It's also why we have a pug, but that's a story for another day.
This avocado candle is cast from a real Hass Avocado, with all of it’s glorious lumps and bumps. Perfectly imperfect!
The lore
In Peru it isn't an avocado but a palta. Around 1450 the Inca ruler Túpac Yupanqui conquered a people called the Palta, in what's now Ecuador, and carried their fruit home to the warm valleys near Cusco. Their name went with it, and it stuck for five hundred years. There aren't many souvenirs that keep that long.

Ripe red · Our best-seller · Always in season
Everyone has a strawberry story. Mine starts in dusty English fields full of laughter, being told off for eating more than I put in the punnet. Years later, strawberries were the first fruit both my children ever had: stained red, chubby, delighted faces. They've hardly left our fruit bowl since. To me they'll always mean happiness, English summers and Wimbledon. This is all of that at 13 cm long, a strawberry made not for the punnet but for the pedestal.
The lore
It's been giant before. Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights is so crowded with enormous strawberries that when King Philip II of Spain owned it, his palace inventory simply called it "the Strawberry". We're in good company.
It's both saint and sinner. Medieval painters gave the strawberry to Venus, goddess of love, and to the Virgin Mary, two women not known for sharing. Pick a side.
Watch what's underneath. People once believed snakes hid under strawberry leaves, so the fruit became a symbol of danger behind a sweet face. Just saying.
It isn't even a berry. Those 200-odd "seeds" on the outside are the actual fruits. We kept every one.

Welcome to Fable Candles
I’m Kathryn, and I have a love of creating hyper-real sculptural wax objects that blur the line between art and illusion. Still life reimagined. Exquisitely crafted (and I hope, irresistibly clever!) each piece is luxuriously made and deliciously deceptive.
Since 2020 I’ve been creating candles that exist to deceive the eyes! From our custom molds, to the blend of wax and colours. Every single candle is beautifully unique.

Sunny yellow · Cast in my kitchen · Less fruit bowl, more objet d’art
Late one lemon season, there it was: sitting in a crate in the fruit aisle, the biggest lemon I had ever seen. I had to have it. It became my first ever casting, done in our kitchen with lots of mistakes, lots of learning and a great deal of silicone. My husband is now mildly terrified every time I come home from the shops. Lemons were always going to matter to me. I spent much of my childhood in the Middle East and Cyprus, where they were everywhere: on trees, in bowls, shading the doorways. That might explain the limoncello habit.
The lore
Golden apples. Renaissance writers linked citrus to the golden apples of the Hesperides, guarded by a dragon at the edge of the world. Botanists still call a citrus fruit a hesperidium.
The original show-off. Lemons reached Rome around the first century, and their remains have been found in the grand houses around Vesuvius. They were so rare that only the rich had them. They’ve been showing off ever since.
Oranges and lemons. London’s church bells have been ringing out “Oranges and lemons, say the bells of St Clement’s” for centuries. Read to the end of the rhyme. It takes a turn.
