This Is Scented Fable

A woman sitting cross-legged on a woven mat outdoors in front of large rocks, eyes closed, appearing to meditate. She is wearing a floral dress and is holding an open book. On the ground beside her are candles, a small bowl, and a glass of water, suggesting a peaceful, meditative setting.
Hey there!

What if a candle could trick the eye. Look playful. Still do its job. And quietly become the most talked about thing on the table, even at a dinner party where everyone looks relaxed but is absolutely not.

That is the idea behind Scented Fable. Candles that surprise, delight, and don’t take themselves too seriously. At their core, these candles are created to be fun.

I am Kathryn. I started making these food inspired candles in 2020 while studying for my Meditation Teacher qualification and as we were in the depths of Covid. Working with wax and food, though, goes much further back. It has been in my family for generations.

A fun fact. My great nana served Queen Elizabeth II many times. My great grandfather was a wax worker. Bringing food and wax together felt oddly inevitable.

Faux food has been around for a long time, and I am very much here for it.

How The Candles Are Made

A display of seven yellow lemon shaped candles on a wire rack, each with a green label tag that reads 'Scented Fable' and states they are made from natural soy wax and hand poured in New Zealand.

It usually starts out in a garden, or down at the markets, where I hunt out the most perfectly, imperfect fruits, veg, the ones with just the right curves and bumps. A good dimple gets me every time. My husband just shakes his head when he see’s me coming with a grocery bag!

We start with the real thing. That exact fruit or vegetable is cast in silicone, capturing every ridge and pore. No smoothing. No changes. What nature made, we keep.

Each candle is then poured by hand using our own blend of natural soy wax and New Zealand beeswax, and colour matched to look as close to the original as possible. Close enough to trick the eye. Just not close enough to eat!

Our candles are made using 100 percent soy wax, blended with sustainably sourced New Zealand beeswax.

When it comes to scent, we let beeswax do the work, supporting better indoor air quality and letting the candle speak for itself. All packaging is recyclable. Nothing extra, nothing unnecessary. We create pieces that feel thoughtful, responsible, and genuinely beautiful.

Our Purpose

My purpose is simple: for you to fall in love with with candles. Foodie candles. Candles that make the perfect gift. Candles that connect them to nature, to moments in time, and to themselves.

Everything we create is poured and finished by hand here in New Zealand, using natural soy and local beeswax. We even make our own moulds! We keep it clean, sustainable, and safe, you’ll find no hidden nasties, no shortcuts. Just colour, craft, and a little bit of alchemy.

At Scented Fable, wax is art, play is sacred, and delight is serious business.

From garden to object. Still life, reimagined.
