The Blueberry Candle Trio
For anyone who's eaten the whole punnet before getting home. Or never got a single bite!
Inky · Sculptural · Never goes off
Made for my son, who ate his body weight in blueberries in Norfolk on our first trip home to England: stained mouth, purple fingers, zero remorse (he still says he’d do it again!). So we made him a fruit bowl that never dwindles. It's a family portrait in three sizes, giant, medium and small, in a blue so deep it's nearly black.
The lore
In Celtic tradition, late summer belonged to the bilberry. On Bilberry Sunday whole villages climbed the hills to pick, dance and court, it became so rowdy that the Church eventually shut it down (or kind of party!). Locals called the best patches pixie gardens, and one father was hauled before the magistrates for keeping his children off school to pick them!
What's in it, and what isn't
NZ beeswax and soy. A cotton wick. That's the whole list: no fillers, no nasties. No fragrance either. Not "natural fragrance", not a "botanical blend". None. Just a delicate honey scent from the beeswax (sustainable of course!).
Give it for
A new love. It's how the Celts courted.
A housewarming. A fruit bowl they'll never have to empty.
A bought of bad luck. Hex lifted, no questions asked.
The details
Giant: 10 cm wide, 408 g, approx. 40 hours
Medium: 6 cm, 79 g, approx. 10 hours
Small: 4 cm, 18 g, approx. 2 hours, about one long dinner's worth
Hand-poured and finished in Auckland
